The Cayuga Indian Nation is seeking a court order that would allow the tribe to resume selling tax-free cigarettes at its two upstate New York convenience stores.

Local authorities raided the stores in Union Springs and Seneca Falls last week and seized 17,600 cartons of cigarettes.

County officials say the stores are violating state law by selling cigarettes without charging the required tax.
