| Job Description: | Responsible for the collection and processing of specimens to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of disease and accurate and timely reporting of test results. Complies with departmental policies and programs, participates in short-term and long-term department planning. Prepares and maintains pertinent records, reports, statistics, logs, files and other documents as required in written and computer formats. Provides quality service for all aspects of test performance, including pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of testing; develops and successfully achieves quality improvement goals at least yearly. Participates in, and demonstrates satisfactory performance of HSS-approved proficiency testing and departmental quality control activities. Performs test procedures; performs daily, weekly, and monthly instrument and equipment maintenance and takes appropriate action when necessary. Ensures that technical problems and remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from established performance specifications and ensures that patient test results are not reported or services rendered until all corrective actions are taken. Maintains competency in assigned areas of department operation; actively pursues professional growth. Participates in continuing education to develop and maintain skills that contribute to departmental achievement and clinic goals and mission. Assists in training other employees and students. Must have skills and interest in working with patients from newborn to geriatric and of all backgrounds and dispositions. Supports and participates in performance improvement activities. Assures that the patient experiences the minimum of pain or discomfort during lab procedures. Attends and participates in departmental and other meetings or projects as required. Performs other duties as assigned by department manager. Participates in coverage as needed for regular hours, vacations, holidays and on-call hours and adapts to changes. |
| Qualifications: | MUST meet the CLIA 88 Testing Personnel qualification requirements for a Moderate Complexity Testing Laboratory as follows: Must have an Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology. OR Must have qualified or could have qualified as a Technologist under laboratory regulations published March 14, 1990 (55FR 9538) ON OR BEFORE 2/28/92. Certification and/or registration by a national certifying and/or registering organization is required before ending the first year of employment. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals and procedures, to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and regulatory agencies and effectively present information in a one-on-one and small group situation to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, coefficient of variation, standard deviation and frequency distribution to tasks such as quality control and proficiency testing. Must frequently use math, calculations and computers. Works independently or with a team to critically think, problems solve or make decisions in routine and/or emergency situations involving concrete or abstract variables. Must promote healthy, non-abusive lifestyle.
